A Celebration of the Fermented Apple: The Swiss Cider Festival Hits Basel

Get ready to celebrate the apple in all its glorious, fermented forms. On Saturday, October 17th, 2026, the living room of Markthalle Basel is transforming into the undisputed capital of Swiss cider. Whether you're a long-time aficionado of a traditional Suure Most or simply curious to explore what modern cider has to offer, this is the absolute highlight of the autumn calendar.

From 13:30 to 21:30, over a dozen of the country’s most innovative producers are gathering under one roof. Entry is completely free, giving you the perfect excuse to dive deep into the incredible diversity of the Swiss cider landscape.

What’s Pouring?

Expect a true masterclass in orchard craft. You'll be able to sample everything from bone-dry, spontaneously fermented wild ciders and single-varietal expressions, to modern sweet interpretations and complex pours with distinct bitter notes. (And yes, there are fantastic non-alcoholic options, too!)

The best part of the day? Getting to talk directly with the makers themselves. It's a rare chance to geek out over apple varieties and production methods with the minds behind Cidrerie de l'Oiselier, Mosterei Möhl, Trois-Lacs Ciders, Pommebastisch, Les Cidres du Léman, and many more. You'll also find guest stands featuring single-varietal juices from Hochstamm Liestal and craft fruit spirits from Maygreen Distillery.

Can't make it on Saturday? Enter the Cider Pop-Up.

If you miss the main event, don't worry—the celebration is sticking around. From Monday, October 19th through Sunday, October 25th (open daily from 11:00 to 21:00), the Markthalle is hosting an exclusive Cider Pop-Up.

Drop in for a spontaneous glass, join a guided tasting to really level up your palate, and browse a carefully curated selection of bottles to bring the orchard home with you.
